Sammy Callan and Aidan Jones won Plymouth Whitemarsh High School's 2026 Homecoming Queen and King titles during a rain-soaked football game against Upper Dublin.
The pair were the only couple on the ballot, as first reported by The Town Crier, the PWHS student newspaper. Their path to the crown took an unusual route: instead of hanging posters in school hallways, they campaigned entirely on social media.
Callan and Jones posted on their Instagram stories and enlisted friends to do the same, the Town Crier reported. Other court members used traditional in-school posters but were less successful.
"I was excited to be on the court and to be nominated by friends," Jones told Town Crier senior Davin Haley.
The crowning came at halftime of the Homecoming game. Heavy rain fell during the court procession, but the student section cheered through it, according to a recap on the Colonial School District website. PW beat Upper Dublin 42-0.
"I couldn't stop smiling when everybody started cheering for us," Jones said of the walkout on the field.
Callan called the moment surreal, telling the Town Crier that friends in the stands were cheering their names.
The win capped a Homecoming week packed with spirit events at PWHS. Students dressed in pajamas for a Wing Bowl eating contest, competed in Color Wars on the football field and turned out for a Yellow Out supporting the school's Alex's Lemonade Stand chapter. The senior class won Color Wars for the first time after losing every previous year, the district recap noted.
