Dollar Tree is moving into the former Rite Aid at 762 East Johnson Highway in Norristown, near the Plymouth Meeting and East Norriton border.
The site sits where all three communities meet, putting it squarely in the path of Plymouth Meeting-area shoppers who drive the East Johnson Highway corridor.
No opening date has been announced. But Dollar Tree is already staffing up. A job posting on the company's careers page for a Customer Service Associate II at the address went live Aug. 3.
MoreThanTheCurve first reported the new tenant on Thursday, Oct. 1.
The Rite Aid at that address was among 40 Pennsylvania locations listed for closure in July 2025, months after the drugstore chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a second time in May 2025, PennLive reported. Rite Aid ultimately shut down every one of its stores following two bankruptcies, the first in October 2023 and the second in May 2025, according to WAVY-TV. MapQuest and Yelp both list the former pharmacy as permanently closed.
Nationally, Dollar Tree planned about 400 new store openings in 2026, according to the company's most recent quarterly update cited by Cheapism. Former drugstore and big-box spaces appeal to the chain because they already have parking, utilities, loading access and established traffic patterns. Dollar Tree already operates roughly 231 stores across Pennsylvania.
For Plymouth Meeting-area residents, the location fills a visible vacancy along a well-traveled stretch of East Johnson Highway. No ribbon-cutting or permit hearing has been publicly scheduled. The hiring activity is the clearest signal the store is on its way.
