Blue Bell flower show draws 250 for nation's birthday

More than 250 people filled the St. Helena's School gymnasium in Blue Bell on Saturday, Sept. 12, for the Norristown Garden Club's Standard Flower Show themed "Happy Birthday USA."

The show celebrated the nation's 250th birthday through five competition categories: design, educational displays, botanical arts, horticulture and a youth division. Girl Scout Troop 73182 represented the youth category.

Arlene Reagan-Harris and Jane Irvin-Klotz co-chaired the event, the Times Herald reported. The two were photographed in front of what the club described as an award-winning welcome stage decorated for the birthday theme.

Club members grew plants and created exhibitions for the show. Named entries included "Bombs Bursting in Air Synergistic," a design piece; "Confetti Cascade Design"; and "Passing by History," which used pressed flowers and plant materials.
