Belvoir Road in Plymouth Township shut down Monday, Sept. 14, for water-main construction that will keep the corridor closed until late April 2027.

Aqua Pennsylvania is replacing infrastructure along Belvoir Road between Johnson Road and north of Plymouth Road, working under a PennDOT permit. The road is closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays. Local access will be maintained.

Patch reported that the closure began over the protests of residents concerned about additional traffic near the start of the school year. Colonial Middle School sits at 716 Belvoir Road, directly on the affected stretch. The road reopens at 3 p.m. each day, though Patch reported that afternoon pickup traffic near the middle school and a nearby elementary school could still be affected.

Drivers are being detoured to Ridge Pike, Fairfield Road/Fornance Street and New Hope Street. Those routes differ from the original plan announced in April 2026, which directed drivers to Johnson Road and Sandy Hill Road/Plymouth Road, according to MoreThanTheCurve.

The project's scope has grown significantly since that April announcement. PennDOT originally described a weekday-only closure running from May 4 through Oct. 16, 2026. The current shutdown now includes Saturdays and stretches more than six months beyond the original end date. Neither PennDOT, Aqua Pennsylvania, nor Plymouth Township has publicly explained the extension.

Plymouth Township Council Chair Karen R. Bramblett and Public Works Director Christopher J. Loschiavo have not publicly addressed the expanded timeline or the resident protests. No agenda item addressing the closure appeared on the township's posted agenda for the Sept. 14 council business meeting.

Aqua Pennsylvania's work is part of a broader push to upgrade Plymouth Township's water system. The township noted in its Spring 2025 newsletter that water mains were replaced across Plymouth in 2024, with more work scheduled for 2025.
