The man Plymouth Township police arrested mid-burglary on Arch Road now faces formal charges and remains locked up at Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

Juan Medina, 61, was arraigned before District Judge Patrick Krouse on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking and related counts, according to Patch. He failed to post $50,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, Sept. 8.

As we reported Aug. 26, police say Medina broke into an occupied home on the 2900 block of Arch Road around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, while a mother and her two young children were inside. The homeowner grabbed her children, ran upstairs, locked them all in a bathroom and stayed on the phone with 911 dispatchers as Medina made his way into the kitchen.

Officers arrived and took Medina into custody as he tried to flee, police said.

Det. Sgt. Christopher Schwartz praised the homeowner's response and credited the 911 dispatcher who stayed on the line throughout the incident. He said the dispatcher was "a calming voice" who reassured the mother that officers were on their way.

"Certainly a scary situation to be involved in, but we're grateful they're safe," Schwartz told 6ABC.

Schwartz said Medina also stole property from a vehicle on the street. Police said he had items belonging to at least one other home on the 3000 block of Arch Road when he was arrested.

Police believe Medina is from Philadelphia but may be unhoused.

Neighbor Dan Quagliarello, who captured video of Medina walking down his driveway, called the break-in brazen. He said he is now adding security cameras to the sides and back of his home.

Police said they have been in contact with at least two victims and are asking Arch Road residents to check their security cameras. Anyone with information can call Plymouth Township Police.
