Plymouth Township police arrested a man Monday afternoon after he broke into an occupied home on Arch Road in Plymouth Meeting while a mother and her children locked themselves in a second-floor bathroom.

Officers responded to the 2900 block of Arch Road at 1:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, after the homeowner called to report a man banging on her side door and trying to force his way inside, according to the Plymouth Township Police Department.

The woman stayed on the line with a police dispatcher as the situation escalated. While officers were still en route, she told the dispatcher the man had gained access through the side door and was inside her kitchen. She retreated upstairs with her children and barricaded in the bathroom until police arrived.

Officers confronted Juan Medina as he exited through the same side door. He was taken into custody without incident.

No one was injured.

Medina was also found carrying property belonging to at least one other residence in the 3000 block of Arch Road, one block from the home he entered. Police did not specify what was taken or identify the neighboring property owner.

Medina was formally charged and arraigned by District Judge Patrick Krouse, who set bail at $50,000 cash. Unable to post, Medina was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. The department's release did not enumerate the specific charges.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 12:30 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Jodi Griffis.
