Whitemarsh Elementary families can kick off the school year a day early with free Kona Ice and a chance to meet classmates at the PTO's Back-to-School Playground Meetup on Sunday, Aug. 30.
The gathering runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the back playground at Whitemarsh Elementary School in Whitemarsh Township, according to the PTO's weekly update. The PTO is picking up the tab for Kona Ice.
The meetup falls one day before Colonial School District's first day for grades 1–12 on Monday, Aug. 31, with kindergarten family orientation following on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Whitemarsh Elementary serves students in grades K–3.
The PTO is also collecting its $40-per-family activity fee for the 2026–27 school year via Venmo (@Kelly-Knowles-40) or Zelle ([email protected]). That fee funds teacher stipends for classroom supplies, technology upgrades, playground equipment, assemblies, field trip transportation, student T-shirts and first-Friday pretzels.
Families looking to get more involved can mark Wednesday, Sept. 23, for the first PTO meeting of the new school year at 7 p.m. in the WES cafeteria. The PTO said it welcomes parents who want to provide input and feedback on school programming. The group also posts updates to its Facebook page, "Whitemarsh Elementary PTO," and can be reached by email at [email protected].
The ice is on the PTO. Families just need to show up.
