Whitemarsh Elementary School students in Plymouth Meeting will spend the last week of October dressing up, naming personal "superpowers" and talking about healthy choices as the school marks Red Ribbon Week.
The week runs Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Saturday, Oct. 31, according to an announcement on the school's website. It falls during National Bullying Prevention Month, and the school is tying the two together under the theme "Make a Difference, Be a Hero."
School Counselor Jess Salley wrote in the announcement that daily morning meetings will focus on practicing healthy habits. Each student will also identify a personal "superpower" that helps make the school a better place and add it to a lobby display called "WES Heroes Make a Difference!"
"As a team of educators, students, and families, we must work together to help our children make positive choices for themselves," Salley wrote.
Each day carries a dress-up theme:
- Monday: "Every Hero has a SuperPower": wear red
- Tuesday: "Healthy Bodies, Heroic Minds": wear athletic clothing or sweats
- Wednesday: "WES Heroes Unite": wear WES gear
- Thursday: "Say BOO to Bullying and Unhealthy Choices": wear Halloween costumes for the school parade
- Friday: "Heroes Recharge!": wear pajamas
Thursday doubles as the school's Halloween costume parade.
The school's announcement lists conflicting date ranges in its title and body text. Families should confirm the schedule directly with Whitemarsh Elementary before the week begins.
The national Red Ribbon Week theme for 2026, "Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free," was chosen through the National Family Partnership's annual theme contest. A student named Ava Tackett submitted the winning slogan. The national observance runs Oct. 23-31.
