Drivers on Ridge Pike in Plymouth Township will not face any additional lane restrictions over the Labor Day holiday weekend, Montgomery County announced Friday, Aug. 21.

The no-restrictions window runs from 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, covering the stretch between Belvoir and Chemical roads where the county's multi-year Ridge Pike Improvement Project is under construction.

The county followed the same pattern for previous holidays this year, lifting additional restrictions for Memorial Day weekend and the July 4 holiday.

Even without new lane closures, Montgomery County advised motorists to allow extra time traveling through the area or use an alternate route. The Ridge Pike Improvement Project is a multi-phase reconstruction of a 5-mile stretch of county-owned roadway between Norristown and Philadelphia that carries more than 30,000 vehicles daily, according to the county's project page. The project modernizes infrastructure dating to the 1930s.

In July 2026, county commissioners authorized an additional $280,208 for an existing engineering contract with Philadelphia-based Pennoni Associates covering the Belvoir-to-Chemical section in Plymouth Township, Main Line Media News reported. The revised contract totals nearly $9 million, funded through county capital and Federal Highway Administration dollars.

A separate weeknight traffic shift for drainage work on Ridge Pike, announced Aug. 3, is a distinct disruption from the holiday advisory.

The county has not announced a post-Labor Day construction schedule or the next holiday restriction-free window.
