Plymouth Meeting native Gavin Ruta will suit up for Lehigh University's Division I baseball program starting in the 2026-2027 academic year, the school announced Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Ruta, an outfielder, was a four-year varsity starter at William Penn High School in Delaware. He hit over .400 as a junior and recorded a 1.000 fielding percentage, according to MoreThanTheCurve.

He committed to Lehigh in 2025.

"I am proud to announce my commitment to play baseball at Lehigh University," Ruta said at the time of his commitment. "I would like to thank my coaches, family, and friends for all the help along the way. Also, thank you to the Lehigh coaching staff for the opportunity."

Beyond his high school career, Ruta played for the Philly Bandits, a competitive travel and showcase baseball organization based in Warrington that serves players ages 10 through 22 across southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The program was founded by David Amaro, whose father Ruben Amaro Sr. and brother Ruben Amaro Jr. both played in the Major Leagues.

At Lehigh, Ruta joins a Patriot League program that has made two NCAA Tournament appearances, in 2006 and 2015, and won the conference regular-season title four times. The Mountain Hawks play home games at J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park in Bethlehem.

Ruta's first college season begins in spring 2027.
