A Blue Bell company built the field where the Phillies play Thursday, Aug. 13.

BrightView, the commercial landscaping firm headquartered in Whitpain Township, handled all field preparation and game-day maintenance for the Phillies-Twins Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa, streaming exclusively on Netflix with first pitch at 7:30 p.m. ET. The publicly traded company (NYSE: BV) serves as MLB's official Field Consultant and has maintained the iconic cornfield ballpark since constructing it in 2019.

The scope of the work was massive. BrightView's crew laid 100,000 square feet of sod, moved 4,000 tons of sand beneath the playing surface, spread 2,000 tons of pea gravel and 300 tons of infield and mound clay, installed 125 tons of new warning track mix, and groomed 159 acres of field corn standing 10 to 12 feet tall around the ballpark, according to Patch.

The game-day grounds crew consists of 10 BrightView team members and 22 local volunteers from the Dyersville area serving on the tarp crew. Six of the 10 BrightView staffers are Iowa natives.

"Our team has been part of this field since it was just an idea, and every time we return, our responsibility is the same: deliver a Major League-caliber playing surface while preserving everything that makes Field of Dreams unlike any other ballpark in baseball," Murray Cook, president of BrightView Sports, said in a company statement released Aug. 10.

BrightView's Blue Bell headquarters sits roughly 26 miles from Citizens Bank Park. The company, the nation's largest commercial landscaper, previously prepped the Field of Dreams diamond for the 2021 White Sox-Yankees game and the 2022 Cubs-Reds game. The Aug. 13 contest marks the third MLB game at the site and the first since 2022.

The ballpark seats 8,000 fans, with dimensions of 335 feet down the lines, 380 to the alleys and 400 to center. Windows in the right-field wall look out on the surrounding cornfield. The venue has been expanded with permanent seating and fan amenities since the last MLB game, and BrightView also prepared the field for the inaugural "If You Build It High School Series" earlier this summer.

Kyle Schwarber launched a home run into the cornfield on the third pitch of the game, according to USA Today. Twenty-six Hall of Famers emerged from the corn during pregame ceremonies.

MLB will return to the Field of Dreams in 2027, according to USA Today. After an off-day Saturday, Aug. 15, the Phillies and Twins continue their series Sunday, Aug. 16, and Sunday at Target Field in Minnesota.
