The Whitemarsh Community Ambulance Service has been answering 911 calls in the township for seven decades, and the Board of Supervisors made it official with a formal proclamation recognizing the organization's 70th anniversary.

The township posted the proclamation on its website Tuesday, July 14 and shared it on social media Tuesday, July 21. In the document, the supervisors extended appreciation to all past and present members for their dedication to the community and for saving countless lives since the organization's founding, according to the township's civic alert.

The ambulance service, also known as the Whitemarsh Community Ambulance Association (WCAA), answered its first emergency call on Wednesday, May 30, 1956. Seventy years later, it remains the sole 911 EMS provider for Whitemarsh Township's residents and visitors.

The nonprofit operates three Advanced Life Support ambulances out of its station at 4019 Joshua Road in Lafayette Hill. Pennsylvania state-certified EMTs and paramedics, along with volunteer members, staff the station around the clock, 365 days a year, according to the organization's public profile.

WCAA also provides standby ambulance coverage at school and sporting events and offers non-emergency medical transport.

The association reported $2.04 million in total revenue for fiscal year 2024, according to federal tax filings. Ambulance billing accounted for about $1.5 million of that total, with grants and contributions making up another $524,397.

WCAA operates alongside two volunteer fire companies serving Whitemarsh: Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company and Spring Mill Fire Company No. 1.
