An SUV caught fire on Ridge Pike near Alan Wood Road in Plymouth Township on Wednesday, Sept. 9, temporarily closing the roadway.

Large plumes of gray and black smoke rose over the area after the fire broke out at about 1:30 p.m., with flames coming from under the hood, authorities told Patch. Crews arrived and extinguished the blaze in less than 10 minutes.

No one was injured.

Ridge Pike remained closed for a period after the fire was out as crews cleared debris and wetted down the vehicle. The closure caused traffic backups in the surrounding area.

The cause of the fire has not been publicly disclosed. Authorities said only that flames originated from under the SUV's hood.
