Pennsylvania State Police and more than 80 municipal agencies are conducting saturation patrols across Montgomery County and the surrounding region through Sunday, Aug. 16, as part of a statewide aggressive driving crackdown coordinated by PennDOT.

The campaign launched Monday, July 6, and covers all five counties in PennDOT District 6: Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia. Approximately 300 municipal agencies are participating statewide. Seven police departments in the greater Glenside area — Abington, Cheltenham, Jenkintown, Lower Moreland, Springfield, Upper Moreland, and Upper Dublin — are confirmed participants, according to Glenside Local. Whitemarsh, Plymouth, and Whitpain township police departments have not been named as participants, but state police patrols and the enforcement corridor cover Montgomery County broadly.

What police are targeting

Officers are citing drivers for speeding, tailgating, red-light running, unsafe lane changes, and driving too fast for conditions, according to PennDOT's announcement. Heavy-truck violations and pedestrian safety enforcement are also part of the initiative.

"Troopers will focus on drivers who are speeding, tailgating, failing to use turn signals, and engaging in distracted driving," Lt. Thomas Falcon of the Pennsylvania State Police said at the July 24 announcement.

On July 24, agencies conducted a coordinated enforcement day along U.S. Route 1 spanning all five counties. No citation totals from that day have been released.

Crash data behind the push

PennDOT crash data shows 2,190 aggressive driving crashes in the five-county area in 2025, resulting in 37 fatalities and 114 suspected serious injuries. Statewide, Pennsylvania recorded 6,905 aggressive driving crashes and 188 deaths that year. Of roughly 76,000 total crashes statewide, about 9,000 were caused by excessive speed, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT District 6 Executive Din Abazi urged drivers to slow down, buckle up, and avoid distractions and impaired driving.

What residents should know

Enforcement tactics include traffic enforcement zones, multi-jurisdictional patrols, corridor enforcement, and work zone patrols. Drivers on Montgomery County roads may encounter officers from agencies outside their home township through the campaign's end on Aug. 16.
