Plymouth Township shoppers and store owners faced a surge in retail theft between May and June, with police documenting 152 incidents across the township's shopping corridors during that two-month stretch.
The Plymouth Township Police Department published its latest Retail Theft Roundup on July 26, on the CrimeWatch public safety platform. The report shows 117 arrests, 115 cases cleared by arrest, 21 cases still under investigation, and two active arrest warrants outstanding. Fourteen cases were cleared without prosecution.
The 152-incident total is the highest two-month figure the department has posted in 2026. By comparison, the January–February roundup documented 123 incidents and 104 arrests over the same length of time.
The department did not release a dollar figure for total stolen merchandise in the May–June period. In April 2025, when the roundup program launched, police reported 23 incidents worth more than $14,000 in just two weeks — roughly 46 per month at that initial pace, compared to 76 per month in the latest period. Most thefts at that time were concentrated at stores in the Metroplex Mall on Chemical Road.
"There never seems to be an end to it and we're hoping that this can be a deterrent," Det. Sgt. Chris Schwartz told 6ABC in April 2025, when the department first rolled out the roundup series. "We're hoping our community is notified of what's going on and is aware of the tremendous amount of theft that's taking place in our shopping districts."
The department continues to publish surveillance photos of persons of interest tied to open cases and invites residents to submit tips anonymously. The CrimeWatch page includes images connected to the 21 investigations that remain active.
