Montgomery County will offer free flu, COVID-19 and measles vaccines at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell on Saturday, Oct. 24.
The clinic runs from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. inside rooms 144, 148 and 151 in College Hall, 340 DeKalb Pike. Appointments are available online through the county's immunizations page. The shots are open to anyone who lives, works or attends school in Montgomery County. No insurance is required.
The clinic is one of several the Montgomery County Office of Public Health (OPH) is holding throughout October, as Mainline Media News first reported. Dr. Richard Lorraine, medical director for OPH, said flu season is already picking up and urged residents to get vaccinated by the end of October.
"By November, we're starting to hit into the season, and it's best to be protected," Lorraine said at an Oct. 15 commissioners' meeting.
Lorraine said current case numbers for COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are low but warned that peaks tend to arrive in January and February. He recommended flu shots for everyone ages 6 months and older and said flu and COVID-19 vaccines can safely be given at the same visit.
For the COVID-19 booster, Lorraine said children ages 6 months to 2 years, adults 19 and older, pregnant women and adults 65 and older who may be more prone to complications should get the shot. For children ages 2 to 18, he said parents should consult a health care provider about whether the vaccine is appropriate.
Commissioner Jamila Winder and Vice Chairman Neil Makhija both received their shots at the Oct. 15 meeting. Winder said her mother, who was already ill, died from COVID-19 after a caregiver brought the virus into the house.
"I'm not excited to get my vaccine today, but I will get it in honor of my mother," Winder said.
In Pennsylvania, 608 people died from COVID-19 and 550 died from influenza during the 2025-26 respiratory illness season, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Nationally, flu causes roughly 50,000 deaths and nearly 700,000 hospitalizations each year, Lorraine said.
